a new kind of blueberry

Second Son’s birthday is today.

The tradition is that your favorite meal and favorite dessert are prepared for you as per your request.

For dessert he wanted, and I quote: “Sugary, really bad for you blueberry pie with at least a stick of butter and none of that whole wheat, organic, free-range blueberry crap.”

Can’t you just picture the little blueberries, running free, frolicking in the sunshine?

I had no idea.

Sounds to me like the sweetness of this dessert is not just the taste, but the breaking out of maternal constraints!

So … he likes pesticides in his pies?

I’m with him on the butter, though.

    I had ducks once.
Viola and yes, you guess it… Sebastian.
A raccoon killed Sebastian before I could eat him.
    I was heartbroken…
I had an orange sauce recipe and everything… 🙂

Don’t you know that you’re not supposed to name animals you raise if you intend to eat them? We had 40 or so steers for a while, and my little brother, who was probably 7 or 8 would go out and pet them all and name them and talk to them. One night, as we cut into our juicy steaks, he says “I haven’t seen Blaze in a while Dad, do you know where he is?” and Dad waits for him to look away, lifts his eyebrows, and looks down pointedly at the steak on his plate.
