what she said, mostly

Meryl Streep’s commencement speech at Barnard, 2010.

Love all of it, except the last sentence. I think she could have done better.

How about, rather, make yourself proud?

Anyway, here it is; watch it through to the end — good stuff around minute 13 and beyond that’s worth waiting for.

I watched this (thanks for posting) and spent a lot of time wishing someone had edited it so only the good bits were there…and whilst I understand her sentiment I didn’t find it as inspiring as I had hoped it would be. Ho hum.

Yeah, I know, I completely agree. I also felt that she threw it together way last minute, and famous or not, she could/should have done better.

But I did really like the part about how little she knows now compared to what she knew “then,” and about herself in high school (the clothes, the “pretty,” the laugh) and how that changed. I always worried that was just me. My husband didn’t know me until I was in my late 30s, so he doesn’t really believe me when I tell him that the only criteria for whether I liked a boy in high school was that he liked me. Ugh. I just want to go back and kick me.

I MUST find way for Only Daughter to attend an all-girls school at some point in her life.

      Girl Power!!!
