TV Watching Rises

I have just one question: What is everyone watching? Everything I run across looks like absolute garbage.

    Well, I watched “The Walking Dead” on AMC. I was rabid about it every Sunday. It’s done (until next season) but I really enjoyed it.

    “Hung” on HBO is a hoot. Excellent acting, very weird premise but it works.

    “In Treatment” on HBO also is a wonderful series (also over until next season). I had to tape it as “The Walking Dead” overlapped, but with Gabriel Byrne (who was fascinating) I was not about to miss it.

    “Louie” on FX. F*cking hilarious. I forgot to watch it each week, but went back to the stored shows and watched them. It’s doen now, too, until next season.

    “Bored to Death”, also HBO. It came on last season and I watched it. Wasn’t as dedicated to it this season, but it is humorous. The first 3 I mentioned are my top favorites, and BTD comes in on the second rung but it’s funny and worth viewing.

    “John Adams”, the HBO miniseries. Excellent, with Paul Giametti as John Adams.

    I often watch home improvement or design shows because that is a big interest of mine. Nature shows, another interest. Cooking shows for both ideas and techniques.

    I’m kind of hooked on “Intervention” and “Hoarders”. They’re both fascinating.

    I love and will continue to watch “Law and Order”, any version.

    Am not sure why t.v. viewing is “up”, because just today I saw an article that says t.v. viewing is “down”: http://businessonmain.msn.com/browseresources/articles/worklifebalance.aspx?cp-documentid=26870114&source=msneditorial&gt1=25049

    If you are judicious in your selections, there is actually a lot of good programming. It doesn’t always come on when you want it to, so you either have to plan your time or go back and watch stored shows, or tape them to watch later.

    Several shows I didn’t watch but got very good reviews were: “Mad Men”, “Glee”, “Eastbound and Down” (which I watched a few times), “30 Rock” (still getting great reviews). There are actually quite a few others that have received good notices, or that I watched initially but lost interest in. “Lost” is one, and “Big Love” another. I liked them at first but for whatever reasons lost interest.

    I don’t think it’s completely fair to rag on television — very good shows are made for t.v., and increasingly, excellent movie actors are turning up on t.v. shows. Debra Winger was on “In Treatment”! Yes, there’s a lot of dreck, and I sometimes find it’s kind of hard to tear myself away when I’m in front of the tube, but if you just watch what you really enjoy and turn it off the rest of the time, it can be an enjoyable medium.

    I seem to be hooked on Intervention and Hoarders also, although why anyone would be I really don’t know. During Hoarders when the commercials come on and afterwards I get up and start cleaning or throwing things away! I really can not believe that people live like that.

    We don’t get BBC America anymore which I was in love with.

    House Hunters International is fascinating! And Candice Olsen’s show although I haven’t seen that in ages.

    Hmmm I haven’t been watching as much T.V. anymore

    Oh wait, Everybody loves Raymond. I have been watching a lot of those reruns. When it first came out I didn’t think it was as funny as I do now. I watch it late at night.

      I never watched “Everybody Loves Raymond” when it was on originally, but got hooked when it went into reruns! It is very funny. The cast was so good.

      Have you seen “Men of a Certain Age”? It’s very good. Ray Romano is in it (and is producing), Andre Braugher (he was on “Homicide: Life on the Street” and he is and EXCELLENT actor), and Scott Bakula, who is also excellent. It’s very funny, but thoughtful, too.

      I love Candice Olsen, although I could do without the schtick. But her designs are wonderful. She has a new show this season, too, called “Candice Tells All”. I look forward to it.

      I love BBC America! Thank goodness we have it.

      I watch “Househunters” all the time. Love Househunters International!

      “Hoarders” usually makes me think, well, I might sort of have some of these impulses, but thank GOD I’ll never go there, not after seeing these shows. Disgusting. I just saw one tonight where there was 3 feet of cat feces! 3 FEET. And I love cats! But hey, not like that, ok?!

    I watch a Lot of movies.

    HGTV – I love House Hunters & HH International, Candace “Genius” Olsen, Income Property, Property Virgins, Dear Genevieve.

    New Adventures of Old Christine. Unsung. Hoarders – I start cleaning too, or at least thinking about it, when the show is over. I watch Clean House when Niecy Nash hosts. Barefoot Contessa. Living Single. Millionaire Matchmaker. Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding.

    I used to watch Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, but I’ve lost interest.

    Documentaries – if they’re about a quirky or interesting subject – on PBS and other cable stations.

    Please don’t make me cop to the Real Housewives of Atlanta and New York. Most of those women are a waste of skin and blood.

    The World’s Dumbest, especially the criminals series. Most of the hosts are criminals themselves and the others are comedians. It’s hilarious.

    I wish they hadn’t canceled How’d You Get So Rich with Joan Rivers. Looks like her new show with her daughter might be pretty funny.

    The Nanny had some of the best sitcom writers. I’ve learned a lot of Yiddish from that show.

    When is Moonlighting coming back? It’s my choice for best sitcom, best actors, best sitcom writers, casting, directors, and Best Music. Until they did it. Ruined the whole show.

      Oh, I LOVE “Income Property”! Scott McGillivray is such a hunk, and he knows what he’s doing, too. I also love “Holmes on Homes”, but now he has a new show, “Holmes Inspection”. It’s good. He just does the inspections, and his crew does the work (he doesn’t supervise on this one). He is my hero, actually. He does what’s right and he fixes everything, even if the homeowners don’t know it has to be done. I admire him.

      I have to admit I’ve watched “My Fair Wedding” and like it. David Tutera is really talented, both as a designer and as someone who can deal with people very effectively.

      One show that I watched once out of boredom and found to be really good — “Repossessed” on National Geographic Channel (which I watch for nature shows). The guy is out of Newark, near where I live, and he is really pretty nice and matter of fact. No fake situations, no crazy, dramatic confrontations. He deals very fairly with the people he has to take vehicles from, and he actually helps some of them, too. It seems pretty realistic, to me, anyway, and it’s interesting. Not like “Dog”, or those type of shows.

      I can’t really watch crime shows, or the “Housewives” of wherever. I hate shows where people act like ass*s. I don’t have the stomach for it.

      “Moonlighting” is never coming back! You know Cybill Shepherd hated Bruce Willis, right? It was a good show, though. Her second sit-com, “Cybill”, was funny, too. I like it a lot.
